Spring Festival on the 13th and 14th of April
The Platinum Jubilee year Spring Festival on the 13th and 14th of April at Welham Boys' School was an exhilarating event.
Friday the 13th of April which heralds spring on the Welham Campus started with a vibrant Inter-House Dance and Western choir competition performed by the students. There were notable firsts with Ganga House topping it in the Music competition and Krishna taking the lead in the Dance competition. This year the Inter-House competition was showcased in front of the parents and was immensely popular.
On Saturday the 14th, The Scholars Recognition Day took place. The proud receivers of subject Awards, individual Achievement Awards, the prestigious Inter-House Trophies and the co-curricular activities went to the students. Awards for consistent performances in academics was reformed this year under the Headship of Mrs. Gunmeet Bindra and as of the spring festival 2012 all students who score a distinction for the first time will receive the BRONZE scholar award, students who receive a distinction twice consistently receive the SILVER scholar's award and the student who receives a distinction thrice consecutively receives the GOLD scholar's award. A student who receives the distinction four time consecutively receives the SCHOLAR'S TIE .The distinction consistently fives times achieves a SCHOLAR'S CREST and for receiving the award six times consistently will receive THE SCHOLAR'S BLAZER.
The reform has been introduced in order to provide incentive and motivation for students to do better and perform consistently in each of their examinations, And as our Principal says," After receiving the awards four to five times success becomes a habit"
"LES LECTEURS VORACES"s award introduced for the first time by our Principal is to encourage students to read quality, contemporary and classic literature. This reader award will be based on a rigorous criterion that the students will have to fulfill in order to qualify for it.
Finally, "The Principals Trophy" introduced this spring for outstanding performance by the majority of students in academic excellence in a house went to Cauvery for the year 2011 - 2012.
