15th June, 2012
Greetings from Welham Boys’ School.
The spring term started with an in-house staff workshop which I must share was very fruitful. At the end of this spring term I write this note to you with tremendous satisfaction at the six months gone by.
The term was action packed, beginning with our Investiture Ceremony for the Prefects and the Graduation Ceremony for the outgoing class XII were outstanding successes. The Graduation Ceremony in particular was hugely poignant and moving. Both these ceremonies are an integral part of the rich mosaic of school tradition.
We have experienced huge successes in every sphere of school life this term. The wings and Feathers Club, dedicated to bird watching has soared great heights. The Spring Festival 2012 was one of the finest Inter House music and dance competitions ever held in the history of the school. The quality of the performances was truly outstanding.
In sports we reached unparallel heights. Our hockey team won the Kandhari Memorial Tournament for the first time after its launch eight years ago. Our basket ball team lifted the runners up Afzal Khan Tournament trophy and our own Golden Jubilee Basketball Tournament trophy, the latter for the seventh consecutive time.
Reinstatement of Round Square membership saw us getting active with our junior boys attending the Round Square Conference held at the Millenium School in Dubai and the senior boys attending the Round Square Conference at Lawrence School, Sanwar. As on today too, seven of our boys are busy on a Round Square service project being held at Pathways International School, Gurgaon.
The crowning glory of this term was the expedition on the arduous path to Draupadi ka Danda (18500 ft). A group of 12 boys and 2 staff members went scaling the peak on 8th June, 2012 in a single attempt. We are indeed proud of the team.
The results of class X and XII have proved that academically too we are growing each year. I proudly share that our class XII commerce topper Aman Ranka is also the state topper. In class X a total of 73 students appeared and 34 students secured C.G.P.A. 9.0 and above, with five of them scoring a perfect 10.
You will be glad to know that our school has fixed up student exchanges with a couple of schools in Australia, and two of our class XI boys will be availing of this opportunity. Selection for the same will happen once the term reopens.
All this is purely the result of the immense dedication of the staff involved and unstinted support of the Board of Governors.
We hope you all are enjoying the summer vacation with your family and friends.
We are looking forward to a very exciting Autumn Term.
